The sit-ups is an intermediate level core exercise. Start by lying on your back with your feet extended out in front of you. The further out your feet are the easier the exercise. With your arms across your chest, slowly lift your torso up to the top of the sit up motion. Be sure to keep your heels on the ground throughout the exercise as this is a key part of doing the exercise effectively. Do not snap your body up or swing your arms. If you cannot perform the exercise as demonstrated then perform crunches until you can do so. Once at the top, slowly lower your torso until the middle of your back (between your shoulder blades) touches the mat then repeat. Beginners can start with crunches prior to performing sit-ups.
